When surrounded by 80 acres of undeveloped forest, the pristine Devil’s River, and only moments away from an incredible national park,
one can’t help but think about trying to do right by mother nature. Here’s but a few of our initiatives for sustainability:
A) Use phosphorous free soaps.
B) Fresh herbs and vegetables are grown on the balcony in the summer so you can help yourself to pesticide free locally grown produce in-season.
C) During construction, we far surpassed municipal tree-cutting allowances, leaving 90% of the surrounding land untouched.
D) Built with “dead standing timber” – ensuring no living trees were killed to provide the logs with which our house is built and that the wood was dried naturally, avoiding energy consuming kilns.
E) Heating system includes thermo-pump, using less electricity.
F) Tremendous natural lighting, minimizing need for electric lighting during the day.
G) Capture rainwater runoff for irrigation.
H) Solar Powered exterior lighting.
I) Wood Flooring made from locally grown Red Pine, reducing shipping distances and carbon emissions.
J) Two buttons toilets - reducing water usage.
